Figure 1b

Figure 1c

Beading rivoli. Bead a chain in (C) beads (Fig. 1a), stitching with one or two needles. Connect the last loop to the first one, closing the chain into a ring. Make the ring a little bit smaller than the rivoli size is. Insert the rivoli into the beaded ring (see Picture 1). Work the bottom part of the rivoli bezel (Fig. 1b): two rows in peyote stitch in (C) and one more in (G). Work the top part (Fig. 1). Start with two rows in peyote stitch in (C) and then add the third row in (H). Go through the last row for several times, pulling tightly on the thread.

Step 2

Figure 2b

Figure 3

Make a full-size sketch of the pendant, or photocopy picture 2, enlarging it to the desired size. The finished size of the pendant is 9x12cm. Transfer the sketch onto the fabric and glue the cabochon. Let the glue dry. Embroider around the cabochon in (G) beads (Fig. 2a). The number of seed beads in the first row should be multiples of five. When the row is finished go through all the beads, pulling tightly on the thread. Continue beading around the cabochon (Fig. 2b). Having worked two rows, go through the bead in the middle (Fig. 2b) and leave a tail thread loose. Do not cut it off as you will need it to join the rivoli. Put the rivoli onto the cabochon in the middle and connect it to the bezel by strings of (C) beads (Fig. 3).

Step 3

Figure 4

Figure 5

Embroidering the pendant. Embroider the lines in (C) and (H) beads (Fig. 2a). Now fill in the free space: sew the seed beads in a random design, using dark red near the cab and dark orange around the edge. Trim away all the excess fabric close to the edge of the last bead row. Optional: you may attach a thin cardboard to the back side of the cab, to make your pendant harder. Glue leather for outer backing. Let the glue dry and trim away all the excess leather. Work the basic edge stitch in (G) beads (Fig. 4) and attach three pendants at the bottom (Fig. 5).

Step 4

Picture 3

Figure 6

Figure 7

Work three elements for one side of the necklace (Picture 3) and three more in the mirror image for the other side. Embroider them as described in Step 3. Glue leather for outer backing and work the basic edge stitch. Join the embroidered elements together (Fig. 6). Bead a modified one- or two-needle right angle weave stitch (Fig. 7) for a chain. When you are satisfied with the length of your chain, attach a clasp.
