B: I like listening to music and I like to sing, too. How about you?

A: I like to listen to the music, too.

B: What kind of music do you like.

A: I like rock music. And you?

B: Rock music is not my thing. I like pop music. What else do you like doing?

A: I really like painting. I often paint landscapes.

B: Great. I can't paint at all.

A: It isn't as difficult as you think. I can teach you if you want.

B: Brilliant! Of course I want. When can we begin?

· Билет № 4

· Olga: The pets in Russia are extremely popular, especially dogs and cats. And what about America?

·

· Elisabeth: A lot of Americans have pets, sometimes very exotic creatures.

·

· Olga: Exotic pets? What do you mean?

·

· Elisabeth: I mean snakes, iguanas, monkeys, crocodiles, tigers, etc.

·

· Olga: I suppose it is very dangerous to have a crocodile or a snake at home.

·

· Elisabeth: If somebody has a snake at home it doesn`t mean it wanders around his house or flat. People put snakes into tanks or cages. Generally such people don`t keep big snakes, and small ones live in cages or tanks with no trouble.

·

· Olga: Do you know anybody who has a crocodile at home? Have you seen crocodiles as pets?

·

· Elisabeth: No, I don`t know anybody and I haven`t seen any crocodile as a pet. But a friend of my brother caught a small crocodile once, when he worked in Australia. And then this crocodile was kept in his house for a month.

·

· Olga: And what can a crocodile eat at home? It`s a wild animal!

·

· Elisabeth: In the wild he eats a variety of different items: amphibians, mollusks, fish, insects, other reptiles. Adults can cannibalize young animals (crocodiles). At home you have to ensure your crocodile gets a balanced diet. It is not a big problem to feed a crocodile at home because they like fish and sea food very much. Some owners of crocodiles prefer to feed them with free-living fishes. The most crocodiles like insects very much.

·

· Olga: I see. Maybe one day I will buy a crocodile for keeping it at home.

· Jane: What is your name and where are you from?

· Sarah: I am Sarah and I`m from Canada.

· Jane: What are you and how old are you?

· Sarah: I`m a student and I`m twenty.

· Jane: Sarah, do you have a family?

· Sarah: Certainly. I have my parents and a younger sister Jennifer. She is seventeen. She goes to senior high school. I also have grandparents on my mother`s side. So, I have a big family.

· Jane: What does your father do?

· Sarah: My father has a café. It is our family business. He runs this café for more than twenty years. He was born in Milan and his café is a pizzeria.

· Jane: How old is he now?

· Sarah: My father is fifty-six.

· Jane: And what about your mother?

· Sarah: My mother is fifty-one and she is a painter. She is painting beautiful landscapes.

· Jane: What is your mother`s origin?

· Sarah: She is Irish. And she can`t forget the beauty of her native land. I`m also very influenced by her.

· Jane: Do you have any relatives in Italy and in Ireland?

· Sarah: Yes, I have them. My grandpa on my father`s side lives in Brescia. And my grandparents of my mother`s side live in Dublin. They are very old now and I try to visit them more often.

· Sarah: Yes. She is a very clever and self-sufficing girl. I suppose she will succeed in life.

· Jane: Do you like to be a senior sister?

· Sarah: It is not difficult and it is very nice. My younger sister is independent and she doesn`t need to rely on me much. But I always wanted to be the youngest child in my family.

· Jane: Is your relationship with your younger sister friendly?

· Sarah: When I was a little girl my sister used to follow me everywhere. She always wanted to do that what I was doing. Then I didn`t want her to follow me. Now I enjoy her company and I like our conversations.

· P: I'd like to take the English courses. What do you think about it?

· T: In my opinion, it's unnecessary, because it will take you many efforts and much time.

· P: I don't agree. To my mind I'll need English in my future. It'll help me to communicate with

· people all around the world.

· T: Oh, great! But you can use the interpreter's help.

· P: It's useless. And moreover, I will be able to understand foreign films and songs.

· T: May be you're right. And what the best way to learn it?

· P: I think the best way to learn is to use a cassette recorder and to practice a lot.

· T: Very possible. So, I wish you good luck!

· P: It worth learning it. Thanks.

Diana: Hi, Julia. How are you?

Julia: Hi, Diana. I'm fine, thank you. And you?

Diana: I'm also well, thanks. How is your foreign languages' learning going?

Julia: Great. I really like the classes. Our teachers tell us lots of interesting things every day.

Diana: What languages do you study?

Julia: I study English and French. English is for my career development and French is for pleasure.

Diana: I remember that you had certain difficulties with English grammar and French pronunciation. How is your progress?

Julia: Well, my teacher of English explains grammar rather well. Each time I don't understand something, I ask her to explain it again. She finds many different ways to explain each topic. So, now I don't have any problems with grammar.

Diana: How about French?

Julia: The teacher of French is also rather experienced. I understand everything he explains. However, the problem with my pronunciation still exists. He says I will do much better if I visit France and chat with native speakers. Джулия: Учитель французского тоже довольно опытный. Я понимаю все

Diana: That's a good idea. Why don't you try it?

Diana: Sounds interesting. I'd like to join you. I have always wanted to learn at least one or two foreign languages.

Julia: You can join me at my foreign languages' classes anytime.

V. Hi, Sergey!

S. Hi, Vlad.

V. You look rather pale. Aren’t you feeling well?

S. No, I just don’t rest enough.

V. Why not?

S. All because of my book. I’m very excited about it.

V. Unexpectedly! And you read this book overnight, don’t you?

S. Yes, overnight! I don’t notice how time is flying.

V. Do you like read?

S. Of course. My favorite pastime is reading a good book.

V. I would say, we have many things in common. I’m a fan of reading.

S. This is good.

V. If compare a book and film – I think a book is better than a film. Books give you the whole story but films leave out some important parts.

S. You’re right, Vlad. Is there an interesting book that you would recommend me to read?

V. At the moment I’m reading «Three Comrades» by Remark and I really enjoy this novel. If you don’t like novels I recommend you to read «The secret history» by Donna Tartt. It’s a great thriller. It keeps you in suspense all the way through.

S. I like thrillers, especially if they contain intrigue. I will definitely read this book.

· Hello

· Hello

· Have you ever thought where life is better in town or in the country?

· I haven’t thought about it. But I prefer living in the city. There are many places to go in free time, our city is so wonderful! Don’t you agree with me? And where would you prefer living?

· Living in a big city is a serious problem for me as I was born in the suburbs of Spb where the air is fresh. Now I live in the centre of our city and every day chalk with crowds of people, polluted air and much traffic. Almost every day I’m late because of the transport.

· You see, I am interested in the environmental problems of our town and I ‘d like to publish an article to attract our pupils’ attention to the problems.

· I like your idea. I find it very reasonable.

· I am glad to hear it. I’d like you to give me some advice what problems I should focus on.

· What do you think?

· I believe I should write about the problem with trash in our town as well as the situation with our city streets which certainly need good cleaning.

· Yes, I agree with you, these problems are really important to touch upon.

· What about the title of my article?

· Think it over, it should be original, maybe something like “Think Globally, Act Locally”.

· Thank you for your tip.

· You are welcome.

Adam: Where do you want to go tomorrow morning?

Lucy: Me and my brothers are going to the lake to swim and sunbathe tomorrow. If you want you can join us.

Adam: I'm not a fan of sunbathing you know. I could fish there while you swim.

Lucy: It's up to you. Do you have a fishing rod?

Adam: No, I haven't, but my grandfather has one. So I'll borrow his.

Lucy: After we spend time by the lake, we are planning to go to the forest to pick berries.

Adam: I'll come with you. My grandmother wanted me to go after the berries and mushrooms.

Lucy: Is there anything else that you want to do in the countryside?

Adam: Yes, I'd like to make a bonfire in the evening. While the weather is good, we can sit around it and tell each other different stories.

Lucy: Which stories? Funny or scary?

Adam: It doesn't matter. I simply like spending time in the company of good friends. I haven't seen everyone since last winter. I should say, I missed them.

Lucy: I see. Well, Veronika and David aren't here at the moment. They moved to the city a couple of months ago.

Adam: Is Renat here?

Lucy: Yes, he is. And he is not alone. His cousin Rudolf came with him this time. He is very witty and funny. I promise you won't be bored if he comes with us.

Adam: Sounds great. Let's invite him too.

Adam: That's a great idea

Sam: Betty, quickly turn on the 5th channel.

Betty: Why? What's on?

Sam: My favourite TV show starts now.

Betty: You mean that program about science and technologies?

Sam: Yes, exactly. They tell lots of interesting things about new technologies.

Betty: Do they tell you that watching too much TV is unhealthy?

Sam: Come on, Betty. Don't be a bore.

Betty: Well, I wouldn't if you hadn't occupied the only TVset in the house for twenty-hours a day.

Sam: This show lasts only for half an hour. Then I'll let you watch what you want.

Betty: Ok, turn it on.

Sam: Look! They are speaking about the history of TV.

Betty: That's exatly what we need to know right now. Why do people invent so many unnecessary devices?

Sam: Why unnecessary? I think they all make people's life easier. You're saying that because you have a computer. If you didn't have it, you would watch TV more often.

Sam: I still think that TVset is a great invention. In fact, many modern TVs allow you to connect laptop or any other devices to it so that you can work on a larger screen.

Betty: I didn't know about that.
